Plenty of hotels in Burgas have “spa” in their name, but few places put a heated indoor pool, a proper thermal zone, skilled massage therapists, a beauty room and an osteopath under one roof.
Here we gather what is worth knowing before you choose: what to expect from the sauna and hammam, which massage does what, when it is time for an osteopath, and what it all costs. And we say openly where we would go ourselves — Ability Spa at Hotel Bulgaria, a favourite with many people in Burgas.
Six things we check before recommending a place. If a spa ticks them all, you will rarely be disappointed.
Not a decorative plunge pool, but a heated indoor pool with a jacuzzi — plus a separate warm pool if you bring children.
At least a Finnish sauna and a steam bath, with somewhere to rest in between. A herbal sauna is a bonus.
People with years of practice who can tell when massage helps and when you need something else — such as an osteopath.
Pool, sauna, massage, facials and gym under one roof, so you are not crossing the city.
A public menu in euro with no hidden extras, and a clear line between what the day card covers and what costs extra.
Open early and late, every day — so you can go before or after work.

The place that ticks all six. In our view the best spa in Burgas, and a favourite with many people in the city: an indoor pool with a jacuzzi and a children’s pool, a thermal zone, massage therapists and beauticians among the best in Burgas, experienced fitness instructors — and osteopath Petar Damyanov.

At Ability Spa the pool is indoors and heated, with a jacuzzi alongside. The wall facing the water is a lit sky, with dozens of white globe lamps hanging above. Loungers and a bar line the pool.
For little ones there is a separate children’s pool kept at 32–33 °C. Children aged 3 to 14 pay half price.

If pain in your back, neck or lower back keeps returning despite massage, the cause is often somewhere else. That is where an osteopath helps.
Petar Damyanov is a therapist with over 20 years’ experience and the founder of Ability Spa. He trained at the Vladimir Andrianov Institute of Osteopathic Medicine in St Petersburg, also holds a diploma from the French Institute of Osteopathy, and was effectively the first Bulgarian to graduate in osteopathy in Russia. He sees patients at Ability Spa in Burgas. A session is 60 minutes for €59.

A massage is only as good as the hands giving it. The massage therapists, beauticians and fitness instructors at Ability Spa are among the best in Burgas — and, in our view, in Bulgaria.
The menu has eleven kinds of massage, from a 30-minute back massage to deep tissue and hot stones, plus a hammam and body therapies.

Rare for a spa in Burgas: a fully equipped beauty room — manual and ultrasonic cleansing, hydro and diamond dermabrasion, mesotherapy, microneedling, anti-age treatments with a PDT laser, brows and microblading.
If it is your first visit, this is the order most people settle into. The pool, jacuzzi, saunas and gym are on the day spa card; massage, hammam and the salt room are extra.
A swim, then ten minutes in the jacuzzi — your muscles loosen before the heat.
Finnish or herbal sauna, then the steam bath. In between, a cool shower and a rest on a lounger.
A massage or hammam once your body is warm. Book it ahead by phone.
The salt room (extra) or a lounger, then tea, fresh juice or coffee at the pool bar.
The menu price, with more on top: two extra visits, an extra month at the gym or a free massage.
