Pomorie is about twenty kilometres from Burgas and is known for the mud of Pomorie Lake — people have come there for mud treatments for decades. The “Pomorie” therapy at Ability Spa takes its name from the town and combines three things in 45 minutes: a Turkish bath, a full-body mud wrap and a light massage.
How it works
1. Warming up in the hammam
You start in the steam of the hammam. The heat and humidity relax your muscles and open the pores, so your skin is ready for the mud. It is the same start as a classic hammam.
2. The mud wrap
The therapist spreads warm mud over your whole body and leaves it to work. As you lie there, the mud holds the heat and warms your skin evenly. It feels heavy and pleasant, almost like a blanket.
3. Rinse and a light massage
The mud is washed off and the treatment finishes with a light massage. Your skin stays soft and warm long afterwards.
What to expect
Mud treatments are traditionally used to warm and relax muscles and joints, and for softer skin. Most people describe them as deeply relaxing. Do not expect a miracle from one session — if you have a specific goal, such as a stiff back, a therapeutic massage or an osteopath may suit you better.
Who should skip it
Heat and mud put extra load on your circulation. Do not have the treatment without your doctor’s approval if you:
- are pregnant;
- have high blood pressure or a heart condition;
- have varicose veins or thrombophlebitis;
- have an inflammation, a fever or an active skin condition.
If you are unsure, say so when you book.
“Pomorie” or a classic hammam
Both last 45 minutes and cost €55. The hammam ends with a kese scrub and foam massage — it cleans and smooths the skin. “Pomorie” swaps the scrub for mud — warmer and more relaxing. On a first visit, if you want “clean” skin, choose the hammam. If you want to warm up completely in winter, choose “Pomorie”.
How to combine it
Come early and swim first, then have the treatment. Afterwards, do not go straight into the sauna — give your body half an hour on a lounger. Book ahead on +359 895 635 555 or via Viber.
