Manual, ultrasonic or dermabrasion: which facial cleanse to choose

Published 28 September 20265 min read

The Ability Spa beauty menu lists five kinds of facial cleansing, and their prices are almost identical. So asking which to choose is perfectly reasonable. Here are the differences in plain words.

CleanseTimePriceBest for
Manual60 min€40clogged pores, blackheads
Ultrasonic + serum50 min€40sensitive or dry skin
Hydrodermabrasion60 min€40tired skin that also needs hydration
Diamond microdermabrasion45 min€40uneven tone, post-acne marks

Manual cleansing

The classic. The skin is warmed and softened, then the beautician clears the pores by hand. It works best on clogged pores and blackheads, especially on the nose and chin. The downside: your skin may stay red for a few hours, so do not book it right before an important meeting.

Ultrasonic cleansing

An ultrasonic spatula loosens dirt and dead cells with vibration rather than pressure. It is gentler — suitable for sensitive skin, rosacea, or if you simply cannot stand a manual cleanse. It finishes with a serum chosen for your skin. There is also a version covering the neck and décolleté (€45).

Hydrodermabrasion

A device using vacuum and a water jet cleans and infuses hydrating serums at the same time. The result is fresh, hydrated skin without redness — a good pick before an event. It is available for face, neck and décolleté (€44) and for the back (€49), which is popular before summer.

Diamond microdermabrasion

A diamond-coated tip removes the very top layer of dead cells. It suits uneven tone, sun spots and acne marks. It is not the best choice for active inflammation.

Combined cleansing

Eighty minutes in which the beautician combines several methods to suit your skin. If it is your first time and you do not know where to start, this is a good option.

How often

For most people, a cleanse every 4–6 weeks is enough. Oily or problem skin may need it more often, on your beautician’s advice. If your goal is bigger — acne, pigmentation, wrinkles — the cleanse is only the start; a course of treatments follows, and when you buy four, the fifth is free.

After the treatment

  • Skip make-up for at least a few hours.
  • Use sunscreen, especially after dermabrasion.
  • Wait before using the pool and sauna — ask your beautician how long.

All facial treatments and prices are on the facials in Burgas page.
